Alexander L. Shifrin, MD, FACS, FACE, FEBS, FISS, ECNU, is a top general and endocrine surgeon who lends his skills and expertise to serve patients at his private practice in New Jersey. He additionally serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Medical Director of Endocrine Oncology at Hackensack Meridian Health System, and Surgical Director of the Center for Thyroid, Parathyroid and Adrenal Diseases at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, which he established in 2006. Under his leadership, the program gained international recognition for clinical excellence in the management of complex endocrine diseases including thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal problems and endocrine syndromes, research, and training of residents and students. With twenty years of experience as a general and endocrine surgeon, he specializes in all facets of his specialty. Dr. Shifrin is the first, and the only US Endocrine Surgeon who was admitted and successfully passed the European Board Exam in Endocrine Surgery. The United States do not have a similar exam for endocrine surgeons. Dr. Shifrin is also a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons, and the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons. Alexander L. Shifrin, MD, FACS, FACE, FEBS, FISS, ECNU, is a 1992-graduate of St. Petersburg I.I. Mechnikov State Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. His postgraduate training includes his pediatric surgery training at St. Mary Magdalene’s Children’s City Hospital in Russia (1992-1994). Upon relocating to the United States, he served a general surgery internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (1999), molecular biology, Immunology and Gene Therapy fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (1999-2001), critical care fellowship (2003-2004) and general surgery residency (2001-2002, 2003-2005) at Milton Hershey Medical Center and endocrine surgery fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center (2005-2006). He attained board certification in general surgery with the American Board of Surgery. Furthermore, he is board-certified in Endocrine Neck Ultrasound and Ultrasound Guided Thyroid Biopsy by the American College of Endocrinology (ECNU). Dr. Shifrin is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, Fellow of the European Board of Surgery, and Fellow of the International Society of Surgery.
