Alexander L. Shifrin, MD, FACS, FACE, FEBS, FISS, ECNU, is a 1992-graduate of St. Petersburg I.I. Mechnikov State Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. His postgraduate training includes his pediatric surgery training at St. Mary Magdalene’s Children’s City Hospital in Russia (1992-1994). Upon relocating to the United States, he served a general surgery internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (1999), molecular biology, Immunology and Gene Therapy fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (1999-2001), critical care fellowship (2003-2004) and general surgery residency (2001-2002, 2003-2005) at Milton Hershey Medical Center and endocrine surgery fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center (2005-2006). He attained board certification in general surgery with the American Board of Surgery. Furthermore, he is board-certified in Endocrine Neck Ultrasound and Ultrasound Guided Thyroid Biopsy by the American College of Endocrinology (ECNU). Dr. Shifrin is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, Fellow of the European Board of Surgery, and Fellow of the International Society of Surgery.
